The capacity limits protect the platform and the switches from more HFT data than they can handle. NVIDIA Minerva checks every new collection against both limits and refuses one that would exceed either.

Limit |
Applies to |
|---|---|
|
Maximum datapoints / sec |
All active collections together. The default is 4,000,000. |
|
Maximum datapoints / switch / sec |
Any single switch, up to the platform limit. The default is 200,000. |
Plan a Collection
A collection's data rate is the number of ports, multiplied by the number of expanded counters, divided by the sampling interval. The New high-frequency collection window shows both numbers at the bottom. A per-port counter is one expanded counter. A scoped counter is one expanded counter for each traffic class, switch priority, or priority group you select. For example, eight ports with four per-port counters at 500 microseconds is 64,000 data points per second.
Within the limits, you can sample fast on a few ports and counters, or slower on many.
For a first collection, use a small configuration, for example one switch, two ports, the rx-byte and tx-byte counters, a 1 ms sampling interval, and a 5-minute duration (4,000 data points per second). Check the results in Explore, and then add ports or counters, or shorten the interval, before the next collection.
Change the Limits
-
In the upper-right corner, click
and select Settings, and then select High Frequency Telemetry.
-
Under Capacity & Limits, click Edit datapoint limits.
-
Set Maximum datapoints / sec and Maximum datapoints / switch / sec. The per-switch limit cannot be higher than the platform limit.
-
Click Save limits.
The Capacity & Limits panel also shows current usage: the data points per second in use, the number of active collections, and the capacity still available.
Only Platform Admins can change the limits. Setting either limit to 0 turns off HFT: no new collections can start.
Raising the platform limit increases the CPU, memory, and disk the platform uses for HFT. It also shortens how long raw samples are kept, unless the HFT disk cap is raised too.
